Rasi vs Western sun sign
Western horoscopes use the Sun’s sign in the tropical zodiac. Indian astrology uses the Moon’s sign in the sidereal zodiac, which today sits about 24 degrees behind. That is why your rasi is usually different from the star sign you know from magazines.
The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days, so your date of birth almost always fixes your rasi even without a time.
